Franciscan Celebrations 2026

Eight hundred years after his death, Saint Francis continues to be a living presence in the Church and in the history of our country.

In 2026, we celebrate the eighth centenary of his Transitus, which took place on 3 October 1226 in Assisi. It is not only a commemoration of the death of the Poverello, but the fulfilment of a human and spiritual journey lived in full conformity with the Gospel.

Above all, this centenary is a time for prayer, pilgrimage and rediscovering the Gospel. The friars of the Sacred Convent and the Franciscan families have chosen to celebrate this anniversary not only in Assisi, but in many places throughout Italy, through liturgical celebrations, gatherings, pilgrimages, moments of spirituality and cultural initiatives.

At the heart of these celebrations is Francis’ message: fraternity, peace, care for creation and attention to those who are most in need. Eight hundred years later, his message is an invitation to return to what is essential.

The Italian Province is organising numerous initiatives through out September and October to commemorate this important anniversary. Browse the events and discover the one nearest to you!
